How to spell Tokyo using Japanese characters (Kanji)

How to spell Tokyo using Japanese characters (Kanji)?

I was going over the keywords people use for finding my blog, and learned that many are looking to know how to spell Tokyo using Japanese characters – Kanji.

Here it is:
The word "Tokyo" is written using two characters:

1. "tou" – meaning "East"

and
2. "kyo" – meaning "Capital"

Hence the word "Tokyo" can be translated as the "East capital".
(In the old times, the capital was in Kyoto, and then they moved it to the East and called it Tokyo.)

As for the number of strokes (or sticks as a friend from Canada would say) for writing "Tokyo":
"tou" – has 8 strokes
"kyo" – has 8 strokes
