Annual medical checks for company employees in Japan

I believe one of the reasons Japanese people live longer is because most company employees are required / recommended to take annual medical checks, sponsored by the employer.

At first it sounded a little weird that the company would arrange for my medical check, as for in Canada the health checks are generally a private issue to the individual and no business for the employer.

Having finished it, I came to like it and looking forward for next year.

The facility I went was specialized for IT people.
In a nice lobby setting, about a hundred people wearing blue gowns and sleepers - it almost looked like a big pajama party - waiting for their names to be called on various checks.
The very nice and courteous medical personnel scan you through and you get the results in a few weeks.

As for my results, I am all good, thanks God - I just need to lose some weight.
But again, who doesn’t? I have recently read that Bono was asked to loose some too…
