BTech News I've read lately

Technology & Business News I've read lately:

1. Drop.io - an online file sharing service - helps customers hiding content from Search Engines crawlers.

Not everyone wants to be found on Google - so it seems.

2. Under Armour - a sports apparel company makes heavy use of technology for designing sport shoes in hope to still some market share from Nike.

I’ll watch the stock. If it takes on Nike, that’s big.

3. Zappos - the biggest online shoe store is well known for its corporate culture. CEO, Tony Hshieh uses Twitter to promote its company culture and services. He has over 40,000 followers.

I wish I had 40,000 followers on my blog.

4. Palm wants a come-back with the release of new hardware but mostly the new software platform “webOS” that supports third-party applications (just like iPhone). The stock was up after a previous plunge.

I checked the site, the phones look slick.

5. Demand for lithium is expected to surge in the next 5 to 10 years due to the use in batteries for electric cars.
50% of the world's lithium reserve is found in Bolivia - nicknamed "the Saudi Arabia of lithium".

I shall buy stock in Bolivian lithium mining / production companies, in few years from now. It may be too late, though.

6. Plastic Power - a new solar-technology material developed by the US startup Konarka - is light and flexible. The electricity-making-plastic-film can be applied to anything from outdoor umbrellas, clothing and bags, to soon skyscraper windows.

This is cool. I would also like jackets / coats with heating devises powered by solar-energy.

7. Porsche CEO, Wendelin Wiedeking is Europe's Businessman of the Year for orchestrating the purchase of VW by Porsche. The small guy bought the big guy. Wiedeking annual salary was apparently $100 million.

I wouldn’t mind that kind of salary.
