Fukubukuro - the “happy bags” filled with various merchandises, at discount prices - are sold in most stores in Japan during the first days after the New Year. You don’t know exactly what’s inside, but you get a hint of what it could be. A bag usually contains a half dozen items and in the case of clothing or so that would require sizes, you can select a bag containing the right size. Regular Fukubukuro prices range from 1000 to 6000 Yen (10 to 60 $), but they can go higher as even jewelry stores sell Fukubukuro.
Most of Japanese enjoy buying Fukubukuro.
